You can't, because Hotmail is a proprietary email provider that does not provide any standard email access protocol and it's not even free anymore

It's not free?

I assume you are referring to this Outlook Live thing that they keep trying to push on me? I certainly don't have to pay to have a Hotmail address but you're right, there is now no way for me to check it without using an Internet Browser. (although I did get some message about the beta Outlook Express service still being operative).
