option: mark for deletion

You have suggestions to improve PopMan? Here is the right place to mention them.

option: mark for deletion

Post by kris »

Hi!

For me it would be useful to have an option "mark for deletion"...
So when you want to delete a message(s) - it will be deleted on next check - not immediately...

I think this would be useful for people with no dsl-connection... :idea:

Without a doubt, if you really rely on PopMan to filter a high volume email account the ability to check/flag messages for delete is a great productivity suggestion. Now you must Select, Delete, .... wait for refresh and repeat the process.... 20-30 times in my case.

I was going to suggest "auto selection" of the next message to shorten the process by one click but the check box is the way. Click (check), click, click, click......"Delete selected items".

Larry

Btw, you can select and delete more than just one email at once! Just select those emails with the mouse while holding the Ctrl keyboard button OR use the keyboard arrows while holding the Shift button.

Nevertheless, kris' idea of a mark for deletion on next check seems to be a useful extension...

Would be great if this could be implemented :) .

Another feature related to this would be to have a whitelist (alongside the current black list feature) and have an option to have all emails from recipients NOT on the whitelist to be marked for deletion.

Any news regarding this option? I've used PopTray before and there this was possible with an option in the settings. Now I'm missing this option. Or is it already there? I'm using the current Beta.

With the help of the new rules feature you can emulate such a "mark all mails not on my whitelist for deletion" feature:

From contains none of
{
"friend@home.de",
"wife@gmx.de",
"another.friend@blabla.de"
}
-> MarkForDelete

Just add all your "whitelisted email adresses" in between the brackets...

You mean this thread? "It would be nice ...". That's a suggestion, not a question, so there's nothing to answer 8)

Okay, if you're talking about the "mark for deletion" option, it's there from beta 12. See here for more details about this version. In the latest beta, when you mark a message for deletion, it's not deleted immediately, but will be done when you click "Empty Trash" on the menu. You can switch this behaviour from the options dialog. Click Tools -> Options -> General -> Delete command marks message for deletion. If you uncheck this option, the message will be deleted immediately when you click the delete button!

@peterbonge:

The last posting in this thread had been:

Then you posted:
Any news regarding this option? [...]
That's why, I thought you were refering to the whitelist feature, which is a reasonable assumption.

Now I guess, you were asking for a "delete marked message on next check" feature. Is this correct? If so: No, there is no such option in the current beta, but most probably I gonna provide this feature with the next Beta...

Yes, you are right. I meant the main topic thing. Sorry for the muddle.
But your answer sounds good. Do you plan to add a special rule or a general option? Maybe this could be useful:
"Delete all marked messages every x checks."
(where x is adjustable of course)

Yes, I was thinking about a general option, because "mark for deletion" is independent from the rules feature. So you should not have to bother with rules to get it.
